Travel Counsellors reveals what makes a perfect summer holiday

2,000 respondents took part in a recent Travel Counsellors survey to uncover exactly what it is that Brits want from their dream summer getaways.

Transatlantic travel takes top spot

The USA remains Brits' number one holiday destination; closely followed by long-favoured European spots including Italy, Spain, and Greece.

While the USA might be best known for its straight-off-the-screen cities or iconic road trips, beachside breaks are the top travel style for 53% of respondents. City breaks fell shortly behind with 41%.

All-inclusive trips came up trumps for a third of respondents, while lakes and mountains (23%) and cruises (17%) capped off the top five.

Multi-destination itineraries appealed to 16% of this year's respondents, almost doubling its share from last year (9%).

The average respondent indicated they intend to go on two holidays within the next year.

Stress free travel makes for a sublime summer

Nearly half of respondents suggested stress-free travel is the prime motivator for an ideal summer holiday. The same factor also plays a key role in guests opting to book through the trade, with 39% giving it as the primary reason to do so. Almost half (49%) value an agent's trusted advice and 46% attributed the choice of booking through the trade as a timesaver.

Steve Byrne, Travel Counsellors' CEO, said, "Our data shows that travellers are increasingly looking for stress-free experiences... the fact that people want to book with someone they can trust and can save them time and stress by crafting individual and personal travel experiences for them is really powerful."
