Travel Counsellors acquires travel tech platform and dev team

The acquisition of Planisto marks just the second in Travel Counsellors near-three-decade history, but the second in less than a year following its agreement to take over Holidaysplease last March.

Fresh off the back of annual results that saw bookings total £933 million (23% up from 2022) with notable growth in corporate sales, Travel Counsellors has confirmed its acquisition of Planisto, a platform which enables agents to create and manage detailed and complex itineraries for customers.

At its annual conference in November, Travel Counsellors confirmed a £15 million investment for tech in 2024: the acquisition of both the platform and its key development team will see it integrate Planisto's features into its existing Phenix platform and accelerate its trade-centric digital strategy.

Steve Byrne, CEO of Travel Counsellors, was understandably "delighted" to have acquired the platform, which he said "has been on our (Travel Counsellors') radar for some time" and "perfectly aligns with" the trade platform's digital vision.
