Sweden highlights its culinary heritage through a new initiative

As highlighted at ANTORS Meet the Media event, Visit Sweden will be promoting its The Edible Country initiative to the travel trade over the coming year.

To highlight the abundance of food available in Sweden's natural surroundings, Visit Sweden has launched 'The Edible Country' ? a 100 million acre DIY gourmet restaurant. In collaboration with four Michelin-starred chefs, the tourism board has created inspirational menus featuring local produce to help your clients experience the Swedish pantry.

The do-it-yourself initiative means that travellers can forage for their own ingredients to cook dinner at their table of choice, where a chef will be on hand to help. Clients decide which table and natural landscape they would like to explore and will then make a reservation. Their reservation includes a seat at the table, local recipes and a cooking kit with basic supplies to help prepare their findings and cook a delicious meal. Over 20 tables have been placed around equally beautiful spots around Sweden.

Due to its success and growing demand, 'The Edible Country' has expanded to include an additional 13 new tables situated across the length and breadth of Sweden ? in forests, rugged archipelagos and by serene lakes.

'The Edible Country' initiative is being launched this June, and alongside this, 'The Drinkable Country' will also be launched, wherein four different bars and sommeliers will create drink recipes directly from the surrounding nature. The drinks are all alcohol free, meaning that the experience is accessible to families.
