Sofitel opens the Obelisk hotel in Dubai

The new hotel is situated near Wafi, just 10 minutes from Dubai International Airport, and blends a French art de vivre style with classic Egyptian heritage.

The Obelisk is Sofitel's largest hotel in the Middle East and Africa, comprising of 595 rooms, a spa (in partnership with L'Occitane) with eight treatment rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and several private cabanas - two with Jacuzzis. Five exclusive restaurants also offer a range of dining opportunities, from contemporary Asian cuisine to British gastropub food.

While the hotel's architecture and furnishings were designed to blend a traditional art de vivre style with classic Egyptian heritage, the hotel has adopted a modern approach "designed for discerning tech-savvy business travellers and leisure seekers", as general manager, Omar Souab, explains: "introducing digital solutions through the use of the hotel?s mobile application, QR codes and touchless technology". The hotel also adopts a zero single-use plastic policy to create a more sustainable breed of hotel.

Named after the historic Luxor Obelisks, one of which resides in Place de la Concorde, Paris and the other in the Luxor Temple of Ramesses II, the hotel also boasts L'Obelisque ballroom, which is adorned by a Swarovski chandelier. As well as the ballroom, the hotel is also home to two meeting rooms- Paris and Alexandria.
