Rwanda opens borders to international tourists and commercial flights on August 1

Rwanda Development Board has announced that all commercial flights will be allowed entry at Rwanda Airport from August 1, the same day the countrys national carrier, RwandAir, will restart passenger services.

As a precaution, all passengers, including those in transit through Rwanda, will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from a certified laboratory, taken within 72 hours of arriving in Rwanda. For passengers who seek to enter the south-east African country, a second test will be conducted upon arrival, with results delivered within 24 hours, during which travellers will be required to self-quarantine in designated accommodation.

Initially, flights will be restarting from select African routes, and more destinations will be added as travel restrictions are lifted and borders reopen.

RwandAir has not yet announced the restoration of flights between London and Kigali. However, services between between Kigali and Dubai will resume from August 1; from Kilimanjaro, Cotonou, Nairobi and Dar el Salaam on August 2; from Lusaka and Libreville from August 3; and from Douala from August 5.

Yvonne Manzi Makolo, RwandAir CEO, said: ?Now travel bans and restrictions are being relaxed, so we can once again resume flying and look forward to welcoming our highly-valued customers back to RwandAir. We want to ensure our return to flying matches consumer demands, as the world adapts to new ways of travel, where the health, safety and security will be of paramount importance.?

All tourism activities, including primate trekking within Rwanda?s national parks, have also resumed in line with enhanced prevention measures. Special tourism packages from local accommodation and tour company partners are now available for tours of the Volcanoes and Nyungwe National Parks, which are valid till December 31, 2020.
