Riviera Travel cruises into 2024 with new Douro river cruise and ship

The MS Porto Mirante will host a new seven-night Douro cruise, with ten departures available between July and October 2024.

Kicking off sales today, Riviera Travel will welcome the ship to its Douro fleet next year.

The 'Highlights of the Douro Valley and Salamanca' voyage will set sail from Porto for a roundtrip exploration, offering guests a guided tour of the city's Old Town before visits to the Mateus Palace Gardens, Castelo Rodrigo and Lamengo, and a number of optional experiences.

Riviera's new ship can accommodate up to 118 guests across 59 cabins, and is home to a sun deck with a splash pool, atrium bar and lounge area, and an on-board fitness centre.

Prices for the new voyage start from £2,049 per person, with regional flights and transfers, on-board meals, a Superior drinks package, tea and coffee on-board, Wi-Fi and the services of a cruise director throughout included.

Agents can also offer three-night extensions for the new cruises, 'Blue Danube' river cruises and 'Springtime' cruises to Amsterdam. The extensions cover Porto, with visits to Braga, Guimarães and more included from £649 per person, Vienna, with wine tasting; a horse-drawn carriage ride; and more from £549 per person, and Amsterdam, where guests can enjoy a guided tour of Haarlem; cheese and beer tasting; and more from £649 per person.

Katja Hildebrandt, head of product (River & Ocean Cruise) at Riviera Travel, said: "This stunning new Douro itinerary takes us into the heart of the winelands along the river. Complemented by the launch of a new ship, it offers guests the chance to explore this fascinating area of Portugal with its magical landscapes and history, in style and elegance aboard a state-of-the-art vessel.

"And for guests looking to maximise their time away, we can offer the flexibility to personalise their holiday by adding one of our extended city stays. The included, expert-led guided tours and visits will offer a fascinating insight into each destination from a real ‘local’ perspective, while there's a chance to relax too with plenty of free time for independent exploration."
