Repatriation begins after Thomas Cook collapse

Thomas Cook has confirmed that all the UK companies in its group have ceased trading - including Thomas Cook Airlines - with all bookings, flights and holidays through the operator now cancelled.

Failing in its bid to secure the much needed ?200m in last minute-negotiations held over the weekend, the collapse of the holiday firm has led to a large scale and complex repatriation of more than 150,000 British holidaymakers. In addition, all Thomas Cook's retail shops have closed.

The government and the UK Civil Aviation Authority are working to support Thomas Cook passengers who are due to fly back to the UK between September 23 (today) and October 6. Depending on the passengers' location, this will be either on CAA-operated flights or by using existing flights with other airlines.

For those who are due to depart with Thomas Cook Airlines, the aviation authority is advising them not to travel to their UK airport as they will not be able to travel.

For those who are currently abroad and have their flights with Thomas Cook, they will be provided with new flights to return to the UK. These repatriation flights will only be operating for the next two weeks (until October 6). After this date, holidaymakers will have to make their own travel arrangements. From a small number of locations, passengers will have to book their own return flights.
