Regent Holidays has added Papua New Guinea to its programme for 2016, making it one of a handful of UK operators offering holidays to the destination, and one of an even smaller bunch to offer group tours.
The operator?s 12-day ?Explore Papua New Guinea? departs on October 19 and offers a mix of traditional tribal encounters, jungle exploration and sandy beaches.
Designed to make it easier for visitors to better understand the country?s culture and tribal traditions, the escorted tour offers opportunities to witness events such as the Baining Fire Dance which are sometimes not accessible to independent travellers.
In addition to this, there are opportunities to sample food cooked in an earth oven, witness a ghost dance performance by the Asaro Mudmen and even boil Megapode eggs in volcanic heated water.
Stef Studley, the company's Asia product manager, said: ?People may know us best for offering really unusual Eastern Europe destinations, but we?ve been offering Asia for more than 20 years now. "With a focus on escorted tours, we?ve extended the programme beyond Myanmar into Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and now Papua New Guinea, as this is a country that is ideal for travelling in a group. There is so much to experience, including meeting the fascinating Huli Wigmen tribespeople, visiting an active volcano and having your face painted at a Tigibi village. Our jungle adventures have been few and far between until now, and Papua New Guinea really fills a gap in our programme.?
The itinerary costs from ?5,495 per person, based on two sharing, and includes flights, most meals, transfers, accommodation throughout and the services of a guide. The price excludes flights to Singapore, which are available from ?417 but can be arranged through the operator.
