Ras Al Khaimah strives to set new precedent of electric air mobility

Air taxis hope to cut travel times by over a third, which the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority's CEO has described as "unprecedented."

In support of the emirate's goal to attract 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030 and sustainability targets, the eco-taxi will significantly cut down on time- and emissions-intensive car journeys.

At the signing of the memorandum of understanding with Skyports Infrastructure, H.E. Raki Phillips, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority said: "The support we've received from the UAE government and Ras Al Khaimah authorities has been phenomenal, enabling us to innovate at an unprecedented scale and pace.

"In the next two years, we aim to build the infrastructure and facilities for an electric-powered transit system that will redefine the way tourists experience Ras Al Khaimah."

The leading example suggests that the journey from Al Marjan Island to Jebel Jais, which currently takes around 70 minutes by car, will take less than a third of that time via the air taxi network.

The network will feature connections at Al Marjan, Al Hamra, RAK International Airport, and Jebel Jais.
