Carly from Premier Holidays and Julie from Inghams gave us their thoughts on the travel industry uniting and the Governments next steps during #TravelDayOfAction.
At the #TravelDayOfAction in Westminster, Carly from Premier Holidays and Julie from Inghams united to give their thoughts on the industry coming together and pressuring the Government to take the next steps on international travel.
Why does the #TravelDayOfAction mean so much to the industry?
"It's so important to come together and stand as a united industry- having tour operators, agents, cabin crew and pilots all standing together is so inspiring," explained Carly.
"I think we all need a lift as well- we just need to be heard, because nobody seems to be listening. Other industries have had plenty more support than us. Yes, there are a lot of sectors that have struggled hard during this pandemic, but travel?s struggles don?t seem to be going away anytime soon."
"Plenty of us have had to work through this crisis, so it?s nice to have a day to come together- the travel industry is a family, its just great to see each other, empower each other, and feel stronger together."
"Even if the government don?t listen to our demands today, we can take the strength from today forward to keep going."
What do you hope to get out of the #TravelDayOfAction? What are your aims and goals, and, in an ideal world, what would be your next steps?
"Well, in an ideal word, they?d let us start travelling again- millions of us have had both jabs of the vaccine, and ready to go- get us on the plane," Carly explained.
Julie, from Inghams, added: "They need to recognise the need for financial support, this is one of the only industries where practically everything we?ve earned over the last 12 months has had to be refunded."
"People here today haven?t earned any money since March 2020. The Government needs to be saying that whilst the rest of the world is opening up, the world of travel isn?t just yet, and they need to use that to inform the support they can give us. We want to be safe, and we want people to travel safe - we can help with that."
