According to a survey carried out by Holiday Extras, holidaymakers who have just come back from post-lockdown trips have reported receiving a warm welcome in Portugal, Greece and Turkey.
At least 50% of people who got back last month said they were greeted more warmly than usual, and more than 75% agreed that they were greeted more warmly. Only 7% of British holidaymakers felt they were received a cold reception, travelling after the lockdown.
Portugal tops the list of the warmer hosts by 90.9%, seconded by Greece at 87.5% and Turkey at 82.8% and the US coming in close at 82.7% responses, while Spain scored 74%, Italy at 73.2% and France at 71.2%. The responses also reflect the destinations more popular with holidaymakers and how they score on their expectations.
Seamus McCauley, editor at Holiday Extras, said, "We carried out this research to get an authentic view from British holidaymakers about what it is like, to visit different countries now. Our research shows the warmest welcome is in places that Brits can travel to right now. In Portugal the Azores and Madeira are on the FCO's quarantine-exemption list and we can visit the country with a negative Covid test. Greece and Turkey, in the number two and three slots, are open, and with Spain closed we are seeing most of our bookings heading to these two hotspots for this summer. If UK travellers are worried about what sort of welcome they will get, the 500 people who got back last month, tell us that everywhere the welcome is warmer than ever."
