The airline has recorded a 91.6% load factor for August 2024, setting a record for PLAY’s highest in a single month
PLAY welcomed 187,960 passengers last month, marking a 1.8% increase from August last year. In terms of load factor, last month represented a 2.7% increase compared to August 2023.
The airline operated to 32 destinations in August, 22 of which achieved a load factor exceeding 90%. Among the passengers flying with PLAY last month, 25.9% departed from Iceland, 35.6% arrived in Iceland, and 38.5% were connecting. 48,694 passengers flew from Iceland in August, marking a notable 18.4% growth compared to the same time period last year, highlighting PLAY’s continued growth in the local market.

It shows that our services are well received in our markets and that demand has picked up […] We’re particularly pleased to see the growth in our ‘to Iceland’ traffic year-on-year, as well as the significant increase in passengers flying from Iceland. This demonstrates that our local market is happy with our services, and our decision to offer a wide range of sunny destinations to Icelanders is paying off.”
Last month PLAY launched ticket sales for two new destinations – Faro in Portugal and Aalborg in Denmark. The airline will also increase its weekly services to Lithuania up to two per week from 2025.
