The world-famous Passion Play in Oberammergau is driving unprecedented levels of group sales for Travel 2 for 2010.
The operator says its specialist Groups division is now experiencing huge interest in flight tickets to Germany and Austria as innovative agents make the most of the historic religious tradition.
Taking place every ten year in the picturesque Bavarian border town of Oberammergau, the play tells the story of the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection. The day-long performances take place on dates between May and October and incorporate more than 2,000 villagers.
Travel 2 head of groups David McGougan explained: ?Many agents probably don?t think of Travel 2 as offering flights to Europe, but this shows we really can arrange group tickets to any destination.
?Innovative retailers can generate a real buzz in their local areas by creating their own bespoke trips around big events like this. We?ve been holding big allocations on flights to Munich and Saltzburg for agents putting together tours of the Rhine and Austrian Tirol which incorporate the Passion Play.?
McGougan said agents are becoming increasingly more adventurous with group trips, but often concentrate on sporting events. Travel 2?s Groups team have helped agents develop their own tours around the Rugby League World Cup in Australia during 2008, the British Lions rugby tour of South Africa this year and various other major sporting events around the world.
The operator says that booking flight tickets via Travel 2 offers significant benefits for agents. As well as having experts handle the bookings, Travel 2 can hold allocations for up to six weeks at a set price, although taxes may change, giving retailers more time to market their packages to potential customers.
The Groups team can also make name changes up to a day before departure at no extra cost, depending upon the airline.
