London City Airport waives liquid limits and hand luggage restrictions with new scanners

Passengers no longer need to remove laptops or liquids when passing through security, and can carry bottles containing up to two litres in carry-on bags.

London City Airport has become the UK's first major airport to deploy next-gen security scanners for all passengers, meaning those passing through security no longer need to remove laptops and liquids from their hand luggage.

Carry-on liquid capacity has been upped to two litres with the new innovation, boosting passenger throughput by 30% per hour.

Alison FitzGerald, the airport's chief operating officer, said: “The new CT scanners will take our passenger experience to another level, reducing the stress and hassle of 100mL liquids in clear, plastic bags and having to unload your hand luggage. The new process delivers a much more efficient security operation with enhanced  security screening.”

“We are really confident that this investment will make the experience of travelling through London City even better for the business and leisure passengers using the airport, to quickly and easily get to our many domestic and international destinations.”

Select restrictions may still be required upon return travel as the technology continues to roll out across major airports.
