Keep it cool: best destinations to escape the summer sun

WeRoad, the solo travel experts, has unveiled the top destinations awaiting guests yearning for a cooler climate this summer.

While plenty of clients are enjoying staycations in the sun this summer, WeRoad has collated a list of further-afield destinations for those in search of cooler climates.

Ecuador and the Amazon offers cool and dry weather, an ideal partner to the area's landscapes and vibrant wildlife. Top of the agenda is Cotopaxi National Park, home to one of the largest active volcanos, and Laguna Quilotoa's crystal-clear waters.

Madeira, dubbed the 'island of eternal spring', offers just that; bearable weather to explore the island's panoramic views and dive head-first into its natural pools.

Norway offers up to 18 hours of sun throughout July, in spite of temperatures rarely exceeding 22 degrees.

The Baltic Republics transport guests back in time, to a world of ancient castles and medieval palaces, and up to 15 hours of daylight.

Alaska swaps sun-soaked beaches for glacial exploration, and with temperatures averaging 15 degrees in August, it's a great place to bring a whole new meaning to 'cool'.

Justyna Chlopecka, WeRoad's UK marketing manager, explained: "Summer is always a popular time for travel but alongside our top Summer sunshine destinations, we’ve also seen a rise in interest of Brits seeking to escape the heat and book cooler trips."
