Gold Medal and Travel 2, the dnata-owned brands, have opted to raise funds for clean water charity Just a Drop and the Family Holiday Association (FHA) with a series of fun and interactive events, as part of the company?s corporate social responsibility programme.
So far, ?2,200 has been collected towards a ?5,000 target for the FHA through events on Valentine?s Day and for the FHA?s ?Shades Day?, where staff pay to wear sunglasses to work. The ?5,000 will be put towards sending 100 families on holiday within the UK.
At the same time, staff are also collecting funds for a clean water project in Kenya in conjunction with Just a Drop. The aim is to raise upwards of ?9,000 by March 22, 2020 ? World Water Day ? to provide a water tank at the Kathyaka Secondary School in Makueni County, along with washing stations, improved sanitation and hygiene education for students.
The school currently has no clean water supply and has to buy water from vendors. By saving this money, it hopes to build new classrooms and have an area to grow food.
Kerry Gallagher, marketing director Gold Medal and Travel 2, said: ?It was very important to us that we were able to support projects in the UK and overseas, so we opted to work with charities that already have a great reputation in the travel industry.
?So far, the response has been incredible, and all our staff have really pitched in to raise money and enter into the fun. Providing holidays for disadvantaged families at home and helping bring clean water to schoolchildren abroad are causes that have an immediate impact and make life better, so we are thrilled to do our bit.?
Two members of staff ? one from Gold Medal and one from Travel 2 ? will head out to Kenya to check on how the dnata money is being spent by Just a Drop.
