The Management Board of Estonian Air has made the decision to cease operations as of yesterday followed by a decision of the European Commission according to which Estonian Air has received State aid which is incompatible with the internal market and must be paid back.

The carrier's CEO, Jan Palm?r, said: "We are extremely honoured to have made a valuable contribution in development of Estonian tourism and economy over the last 24 years, and I would like to thank all employees, customers and partners for making it happen. Nevertheless, the European competition authorities deemed our state aid violating the rules."
