Diamond Rail Holidays has expanded its programme of fully escorted rail holidays for 2016 including a wider choice of summer itineraries in Switzerland.
The new tours offer the opportunity to take in the Alpine scenery, with departures available on dates between May and September.
As an example of new itineraries available, a six-day ?Swiss Spa, Zermatt & the Matterhorn? option is based out of the small spa resort of Ovronnaz and includes visits to the car-free village of Zermatt for a journey on one of the highest railways in Europe to the summit of Gornergrat, which offers breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. The tour costs from ?1,189 per person, with departures available in May, August and September.
Alternatively, ?Glacier Express, Bernina Express, Klosters & Wengen? is a seven-day journey on some of Switzerland?s legendary railways including the Glacier Express, the slowest express train in the world; the Bernina Express, the highest railway across the Alps; and the historic Brienzer Rothorn steam train, departing from the shores of Lake Brienz. Also included are visits to car-free Wengen, at the foot of the Jungfrau, and Klosters, complete with cable cars, funicular railways and lifts to access the surrounding peaks.
The tour is priced from ?1,259 per person, with departures in June and September. Prices are based on two adults sharing and include Eurostar travel from St Pancras to Paris, onward rail journeys, half-board accommodation throughout, excursions, a Swiss card offering half-price train journeys on free days and the services of a tour manager.
