COMO Cocoa Island, the luxury resort in Maldives will be reopening on September 1, after renovation work.
Situated on the South Male Atoll, the undisturbed quarters of the archipelago, the boutique hotel reopened in January following an extension of its 34 overwater villas and suites, which are modelled on traditional Dhoni boats.
One third of the private island is occupied by the COMO Shambhala Retreat, giving guests more time and space to focus on their wellbeing and practice physical distancing.
A new Pilates studio and open-sided yoga pavilion (with striking views of the lagoon) accompanies the hydrotherapy pool, which is the only one in the Maldives.
Two of the four treatment rooms have been expanded to accommodate couples, and the size of each room allows therapists to practice the full and half-day treatments ? including the relaxation and restoration paths-of the Shambhala retreat, without moving guests from one room to another.
Guests can enjoy snorkelling or taking a dive with parrot fish, sharks and manta rays, or learn the power of meditation, sign up for a personal training session on the sand before having a nutritious dinner at the Ufaa restaurant, comprising the Shambhala cuisine, with items that restore balance within the human body, enriched with organic, vitamin-rich ingredients.
In the villas, Maldivian coral-rock walls, teak flooring and Kajan thatch roofing make for an unconventional ambience, and the white-on-white interiors in the light-soaked room are suitable for meditation, relaxation and rejuvenation.
The resort offers several services, such as orchestrating customised cruises to neighbouring islands and beaches, planning private dinners at remote locations on the island, arrange yoga, diving or snorkelling sessions and create adventurous activities for families travelling together.
