With the support of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Colombia is officially the first country in Latin America to launch a Tourism Biosecurity Stamp.
The stamp, created by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, with the support of Procolombia, aims to generate confidence for the travellers, minimising the risk of infection of the virus and encouraging tourism in the country.
According to the deputy minister of tourism Julian Guerrero, with this stamp, Columbia is inviting the companies of the sector to implement it and to follow the biosecurity measures. The order for travellers to feel safe at the hotel, restaurant or any tourist place they are visiting. The idea is to make them feel that they are entering a safe space.
UNWTO secretary-general Zurab Pololikashvili praised Colombia for the development of this biosafety certification, the first in the region. He expressed the organisation's support for this important initiative, which will provide confidence to the travellers and consumers in the revival phase of tourism.
Once the companies in Colombia have got their stamp, this will be valid for two years and the government is committed to keeping track of the companies in the tourism industry who have been awarded this certification.
