The new flagship airline for Sierra Leone will take to the skies from December 2nd, 2024, providing the only direct service to the UK
Taking off from London Gatwick, the service will fly direct to Freetown in a bid to expand Sierra Leone’s aviation sector and open the destination up to more tourists. The service will operate six times per week (three times from Gatwick to Freetown, and thrice the other way).
A series of additional routes are also available to key African destinations, such as Dakar and Accra, from Freetown.
Nabeela Farida Tunis, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said, “We anticipate that the new airline will help to boost visitor footfall to Sierra Leone. This is a big moment in our country’s tourism development, as Air Sierra Leone will offer international visitors and diaspora easier access and better flight connectivity to this emerging destination, all for a more affordable price.”
Sierra Leone opened its new international airport terminal in March 2023, alongside new tours and infrastructure development to pave the way for a bolstered tourism industry. The direct service by Air Sierra Leone to the UK capital is just the beginning, with plans in the pipeline to develop additional routes to the US next year.
