A new programme of free workshops for ABTA members will take place from November, with members invited to attend virtually or in person at the association's London office
The Biodiversity Literacy for Travel and Tourism workshops have been developed in partnership with ANIMONDIAL, eco-tourism experts.
With a UN Tourism study finding that over 80% of travel and tourism products rely on nature and biodiversity, ABTA is highlighting just how important it is to incorporate nature protection, community initiatives and destination regeneration into sustainable plans.
Carol Rose, ABTA's head of sustainability, suggested, "Biodiversity and fully functioning ecosystems are essential for achieving sustainability and Net Zero goals. Businesses must therefore minimise their operational impacts on nature and contribute to nature protection and destination regeneration.
"It’s a topic that the industry has been looking at more and more in recent years, but it’s an area of expertise which not many are familiar with, which is why we are pleased to be offering members these free workshops to help develop their insight."
Workshops are aimed at agents and tour operators, with each workshop taking around 90 minutes.
The training series includes 'Biodiversity Basics' on November 13th at 2 pm, 'Understanding the State of Nature' on November 20th at 2 pm, 'One Planet – One Plan' on November 26th at 3:30 pm, 'Business Action for Nature' on December 3rd at 2 pm, and 'Collaborating for Change' on December 11th at 2 pm.
Registration is now open.
