ABTA has announced that Alistair Rowland, group general manager at Midcounties Co-op Travel has been elected to the ABTA Board of Directors representing retailers with an annual turnover of over ? 20 million.

Mr Rowland has held the position of group general manager travel since 2011 and prior to this was director of distribution at the Co-operative Travel Group. He has also held various senior positions at managerial and directorial level.

John McEwan ABTA chairman said: "I am very happy to welcome Alistair to the ABTA Board of Directors where his wealth of experience will prove invaluable to the association and our members. I also know that he will be a committed advocate for the independent retail sector, ensuring that their views are effectively represented".

Alistair Rowland said: "I am delighted to be appointed to ABTA's board at such a time of continued change for the industry. ?Midcounties Co-op Travel represents the large independent sector well, particularly with the growth plans we have to become a significant force in distribution in the UK. I will work hard to promote the sector, particularly in the areas of education, commerciality and customer service".

In addition Hugh Morgan of Cosmos Holidays Plc has been reappointed to the board representing principal members with a turnover of over ?50 million.
