Charity organisation launches #JustaHaircut to raise funds for COVID-19 relief programme

International water charity, Just a Drop, has come up with an innovative fundraising idea

It is asking all those, who are in need of a haircut, to trim or clip their hair at home and donate the amount to their charity page JustGiving.

Donations made through the haircut campaign will go towards their recent initiative, called the Coronavirus Emergency Response Programme, which aims to provide the vulnerable communities living in the remote corners of Asia, Africa and Latin America, with regular access to safe drinking water and hand washing facilities.

The programme aims to ensure, that more than 380,000 people living in vulnerable communities, have enough training to prevent COVID-19, by hand washing regularly and learning to make soap themselves. This will help reduce the spread of coronavirus, and keep them safe and healthy.

In various places across the world, where people have to walk a long way, just to fetch clean and safe water; there is hardly enough water left after cooking, drinking and cleaning, for regular hand washing. At present, a reliable source of water near every house is of outmost necessity.

Additionally, Just a Drop is supporting the livelihoods of people, who have lost their source of income, and are struggling to feed their families. It is much more difficult for weak and malnourished people, to fight off ill effects of the virus.

Founder and chairman of Just a Drop, Fiona Jeffery, said: ?Many of us need a haircut, so why not have some fun, while we save a small amount of money and make a donation, which will help save lives. We have seen some brilliant and brave haircuts so far, and we are really looking forward to seeing what is in store!?

For those who would like to take part in the #JustaHaircut initiative:

1. Cut or clipper your hair and make a short video of yourself while doing so

2. Donate the cost of your usual haircut to Just a Drop through their JustGiving Page

3. Share your videos and photos online with your message of support and nominate three friends to do the same
