Thomson Airways welcomes new government?s APD position
Thomson Airways welcomes the new government?s position on Air Passenger Duty (APD). homson Airways welcomes the new government?s position on Air Passenger Duty (APD). Commenting Peter Long, Chief Executive of TUI Travel PLC said: ?We are very pleased to receive confirmation that the new Government intends to replace APD with a per plane tax. TUI Travel has long argued for this change which will reward airlines like Thomson Airways that operates with the highest load factors in the industry, and will incentivise carbon efficient behaviour. We are delighted that Government has accepted the force of those arguments. The outbound travel industry is a very important part of the UK economy and we hope that this government will recognise the importance of our industry to UK PLC. We intend to work closely with the new Government and the Department of Transport on a number of ongoing issues, in addition to the replacement of APD, including financial support for the industry following the blanket closure of airspace and reform of the ATOL regulations providing financial protection for customers.?
