PLAY announces first Scottish route

Iceland’s leading cost-airline has announced the inaugural route between Glasgow International and Keflavik airport, with the first flight departing on May 26, 2023.

Travellers will be able to fly direct to Keflavik to explore what Iceland has to offer, or connect to four of PLAY’s US destinations (New York, Boston, Baltimore and Washington) as well as Toronto from June 2023.

PLAY will operate four flights per week over the summer months, dropping to three from autumn 2023. Flights for the direct route will start at £69pp one way, with the US flights starting at £169pp.

Birgir Jónsson, PLAY CEO, said: “Everyone at PLAY is excited to welcome passengers from Glasgow to Iceland and onwards. In January 2023, Brits made up the largest percentage of tourists to Iceland, and since we launched our UK routes at London Stanstead and Liverpool John Lennon, our UK destinations have consistently topped the charts of our busiest flights.

“Our Glasgow route is perfectly placed to fill the gap in demand for Scottish tourists to visit Iceland without the price tag.”
