Brittany Ferries has launched a new no frills car ferry service linking Portsmouth to Le Havre in Normandy and Santander in northern Spain. Branded Brittany Ferries ?conomie, it is aimed at customers looking to travel to France or Spain at a reasonable fare without the cruise-style experience normally provided by the line.

One-way fares for a car plus two this spring start from ?59 to France and ?169 (including reclining seats) to Spain.
The new service is operated by a recently acquired ship, Etretat, named after the coastal village in Normandy famous for its stunning sea cliffs and dramatic chalk arches ? all easily accessible by car from the port of Le Havre. Facilities and space onboard are limited compared to the line's cruise ferry services, but still include a bar, small boutique and movie lounge as well as free Wi-Fi internet access. There is also a self-service restaurant serving a selection of hot and cold dishes.
The new service comprises a daytime sailing from Portsmouth to Le Havre and an overnight sailing from Le Havre to Portsmouth each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The crossing time is five hours 30 minutes during the day and around nine hours overnight. At weekends there is a Saturday morning departure from Portsmouth to Santander and a Sunday afternoon sailing back to Portsmouth with a crossing time of 26 hours each way.
