Films, pictures and stories about how travel can positively benefit people and places loved by British holidaymakers also form part of the newly-designed site.

According to? The Travel Foundation the new website, www.thetravelfoundation.org.uk, is designed to be a central information point for anyone working in travel who wants to find out more about how they can get involved. From how hoteliers can make their properties more energy efficient to helping travel agents talk to customers about responsible travel projects in overseas destinations, the website is a one-stop-shop.

The design makes it easy for anyone working in travel to find information relevant to them. Information packs and training tools are all available to download and are tailored for different sectors of the industry including travel agents, managers, overseas staff, communication specialists, hotel operators and ski specialists.

?Our new website is full of practical advice and information for anyone working in travel,? said Sue Hurdle, chief executive of The Travel Foundation.

She added: ?We have a range of tools and materials to help people in the travel industry talk to staff, customers and suppliers about sustainable travel in a meaningful way. We want everyone in the industry to get involved and understand more about what they can do to make a difference. The best way to explain sustainable travel and to bring it to life is to tell people?s stories. The new website has a range of changing lives stories, films and images which show how the travel industry can help and support our projects around the world.

?For example, in Kenya we have helped communities in the Maasai Mara gain a fair share of the revenue from tourists visiting their villages by setting up a new ticketing system for excursions which has increased earnings by 800%. In Enkerari village, Nataana is now able to go to school because this new income is being used to provide education for the children, as well as basic sanitation and running water. It is making an amazing difference to their lives and giving visitors an experience of a lifetime.?

As well as current news stories there are details about all the Travel Foundation?s projects, which are divided into themes including People and Livelihoods, Climate Change and Education. People can also sign up to the Travel Foundation?s forum which keeps anyone working in travel up to date on sustainability issues. The Travel Foundation is encouraging all travel companies to take a look at the new site to see how they can get involved.
