p>G Adventures has created new rail-based trips as a way for travellers to experience grass-roots travel.The new 'Rail' travel style launches with 25 itineraries between seven and 54 days duration, taking in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. All trips use trains as the primary mode of transport.
The operator has launched the programme to meet the demand for affordable train-based trips, and trips include cultural encounters such as home stays, home-cooked meals with local families and visits to projects run by the operator's non-profit organisation, Planeterra.
As an example, an 18-day The Silk Road of China takes travellers deep into the China. Highlights include watching sun rise over the dunes outside Dunhuang, exploring the world of the Muslim Uyghurs, spending the night in traditional yurts near Urumqi and venturing into the Taklamakan Desert to Kashgar.
