p>Next year will see Slovenia celebrate the 2,000th anniversary of the ancient Roman City of Emona in Ljubljana.

Before Ljubljana there was Emona. It was around 14 AD that the construction of the Roman colony of Emona on the site of present-day Ljubljana was completed with the help of a large donation from Emperors Augustus and Tiberius.

Fast forward 2,000 years and 2014 will see Ljubljana mark the anniversary of the foundation of Emona with a programme of events and exhibitions, offering up theatre, music and authentic Roman cuisine.

The main event, celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of the foundation of Emona, involves three days (August 22-24) of events and workshops. Actors will recreate Roman weddings, dances and battles while visitors can wander the market and learn everything from fine arts and religion to hairdressing and fortune telling.
