Regent Holidays promotes Alternative Asia programme

Regent Holidays has launched its 2014 Alternative Asia brochure with new offerings in destinations including North Korea, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, China, Burma and Indo-China.

As examples, a 15-day Odyssey Along the Silk Road covers one of the most remote sections of the Silk Road, through Kazakhstan into China, beginning in the capital city Astana and travelling through the Kyrgyz highlands.

The tour includes an overnight stay in a yurt camp near a 15th century caravanserai before venturing over the 12,000ft Torugart Pass into Western China. The tour departs on September 2 and costs from £3,045 per person, based on two sharing and including flights, accommodation in three- and four-star hotels, most meals, transfers and transport.

Alternatively, a 13-day Highlights of Sichuan & Yunnan Group Tour begins in Chengdu,  the capital of Sichuan Province, and takes in Zhongdian Province, renamed Shangri-La in 2001 after the 1933 James Hilton novel Lost Horizon.

Highlights include a visit to the 17th-century Sumtseling Monastery, also known as Little Potala Palace, plus a visit to the remote and mysterious Yunnan province – home to 25 different minority tribes, many descended from Tibetans with their unique dialects, colourful traditional dress and history.

The tour departs on June 14 and prices lead in at £2,645 per person including flights, accommodation in three- and four-star hotels, most meals, all transfers and transport, plus the services of a guide/driver.

The new brochure can be downloaded from For details call 020-7666 1244.
