Jet2.com & Jet2holidays reveal key trends in What?s Hot 2014 report

Jet2holidays and Jet2.com have released their annual travel trend report, revealing ?What?s Hot? for 2014.

Combining research findings from more than 2,000 holidaymakers with customer data, the report offers an insight into how our holidaying habits have changed and evolved, how much holidays mean to us, what we plan to do whilst we are away and where the must-visit destinations will be this year.

When it comes to the 2014 hotspots, whilst the Spanish sunshine isles stay ever popular, Turkey, Greece and Croatia are giving holidaymakers something different to look forward to next year as bookings to the Eastern Mediterranean continue to soar. Sightseeing city breaks are also striking a cord with 74% opting to visit a cool European city or two next year. Barcelona and Venice are currently topping the city charts when it comes to booking figures ? already up 80% on last year.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: ?With consumers more determined than ever to enjoy their much loved holiday next year, we?re predicting our biggest year yet in 2014 ? especially to our Eastern Mediterranean destinations. These findings really illustrate just how important holidays are in our annual calendar and it?s very interesting to see just how and where the majority of us are hoping to escape.?

Other key findings include
40% still opt to send a traditional postcard whilst they are away; 39% cannot leave home without their favourite brand of teabag or ketchup; 43% are prepared to leave the sanctuary of the sunbed to get active instead with cycling, golfing and sailing the sports of choice; and a rise in older kids travelling, with 20% tagging along with mum and dad instead of making the most of a mates only break.

The survey also found that four fifths (85%) cannot forego their annual trip and a fifth
say their holiday is more important to them than their birthday and Christmas put together.
