ABTA reports strong member expectations for Easter travel

ABTA predicts over two million Brits will head abroad this Easter as members ramp up for the busiest day of travel, Good Friday

Chief executive Mark Tanzer encouraged travellers to "always check for any planned engineering works and leave plenty of time to get to your departure port."

Members have reported strong demand for Spain and its islands (the Balearics and Canaries), Greece and Türkiye for short-haul travel.

Thailand has been suggested as the most popular long-haul destination for the Easter period.

Those destinations align well with ABTA's Holiday Habits report from last year, revealed at its Conference in Greece.

Cultural and city break demand is also robust; Dublin, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Budapest, Rome, Paris and Dubai are the most popular options for Brits.

Well over 100,000 flyers are expected to depart from both Stansted and Luton, and demand outside the capital appears to be equally strong, with 160,000 flying from Manchester.

"Easter is always one of the busiest times of year for the travel industry with millions taking advantage of the long weekend to take an overseas beach or city break. Over the past few months, ABTA members will have been working hard to help travellers secure the ideal Easter break," Tanzer concluded.
