Visit DenmarkTime it just right and you might just see some happy trolls on the Visit Denmark stand. The tourist board has joined into a promotional partnership with Dreamworks Animation, the producer of upcoming feel-good movie ?Trolls?, and implemented a troll ?Hug Time? twice a day during this year?s WTM at 12:00 and 16:00, with the chance for visitors to win prizes.

Dennis Englund, UK director for Visit Denmark, said: ?The movie is all about happiness, joyfulness and friendship; all fundamental values for which people travel and which fit very well as an umbrella to all of the products Denmark has to offer.?

According to the latest report from the Danish Statistical Office, official figures confirm that Denmark has seen an increase in UK visitors with 18% more overnight stays in the period of January-July 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.

Englund said ?This is very positive and being driven by a number of different things. We're seeing more young people travelling with the likes of Ryanair and easyJet making it easier and more accessible for them to travel to Copenhagen. For young people it's one of the top ten cities that's trending right now.

?We're also seeing the rest of Denmark coming into play; a lot of people who have experienced Copenhagen are travelling back to other destinations in Denmark and we see that British Airways has opened a new route into the Western part of Denmark, where we have Aarhus, which is to be the European Capital of Culture next year.?

Rebecca Matthews, CEO of European Capital of Culture, was also on stand to unveil more about the project and plans for 2017. With the event officially kicking off from January 20, she said: ?2017 is of course about Aarhus as a city but also about the 19 municipalities across the whole centre of the Denmark region stretching from the east coast to the west coast.

"The whole programme for the year will take place in a region of around 1.3 million people, with more than 400 events and covering culture in a broad sense; not just the arts, but food and gastronomy, sport and play, nature and culture, history and belief. We have a big focus for 2017 and will be looking at the ?Danish DNA? as part of the European narrative - looking at the things that make Denmark really special.?
