WTM news: Ajman highlights culturally rich offerings for 2020

While Dubai has already established itself as a tourist hub, Ajman Tourism wants to get both agents and the public aware of this up-and-coming emirate.

Home to untapped natural landscapes, luxury hotels, exotic beaches and flocks of flamingos, Ajman has a lot on offer, however, it is a lack of awareness that the tourist board wishes to tackle in the upcoming year.

Ian Scott, UK director of Ajman Tourism, said: ?The UK office only opened about a year ago, we?ve got a lot of work to do in terms of basic education, awareness and trade, so we?re not here to announce new things. We?ve done a lot this year with FAM trips and so on, and we have to keep that up. Agents know Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but they don?t realise that half an hour away from Dubai airport is Ajman, and it has a lot going on and a lot on offer.?

An ambitious addition to the emirate is the Heritage Village. Set to be a major tourist destination, the main goal of the project is to highlight the rich Arabian heritage of the emirate to visitors. Along with cultural reminders, the village will feature a plethora of trees and greenery to bring into focus the fact that Ajman is a region of natural beauty.

One of the main goals for Ajman in the upcoming year is to showcase this region to as many agents as possible, so that they can better sell to clients: ?I came back from the first travel agent FAM trip to Ajman, where we had four to five agents included, this was a bit of a test for us,? continued the director.

?We are planning on having one or two FAM trips next year, just to make sure agents have the first-hand experience. We will also continue to work with media partners, educate, be involved with more incentives and, of course, FAM trips are critical to us, because explaining is one thing but seeing the region is another. All the agents and tour operators we?ve taken to Ajman have loved it.?
