Visit Turku Restaurant Pinella

What makes Turku in Finland a great choice for family holidays?

Not only is Turku Finland’s oldest and most historic city, it is also the country’s second largest, benefiting from a new non-stop Wizz Air flight from London Luton and now easier access for families.

The region offers a variety of family friendly experiences, from visiting the well-known Moomin World in Naantali or going on a ‘Little Knight’s Tour’ of Turku Castle to learning about archaeology in the Aboa Vetus Museum and participating in the Luostarinmaki Handicrafts Museum.

During the summer months visitors can travel from Turku to Naantali on the steamship Ukkopekka. There are adventure parks and botanical gardens at Kupittaa and Ruissalo as well as biking and kayaking activities for the more adventurous families across the archipelago.

Lotta Bäck, international marketing manager of Visit Turku, said: “Turku is one of the most popular cities in Finland and with the launch of this new route we have already welcomed many more visitors to the region.

“Families can spend their days travelling through the picturesque archipelago on bicycle, taste the delicious culinary delights of our growing food scene, experience the wonders of the nearby Moomin World as well as cruise down the River Aura on electric boats.”

The city is fast becoming a culinary hub with a range of food options, including top restaurants such as Kaskis, Smör and Mami. Another must-visit for local cuisine is the Turku Market Hall; opened in 1896, the second oldest market hall in Finland features restaurants, cafés, butchers, cheese shops, fishmongers and bakeries.

To celebrate the opening of Turku for UK travellers, Visit Turku and Visit Finland have partnered with Luna Kids Cinema to bring a day of Finnish family fun to Hampton Court Palace onAugust 17. A special screening of the new Sky Kids Moominvalley TV show will take place on the big screen for the first time complete with the chance for fans of the show to meet Moomin characters and taste Finnish delicacies.
