Tobago receives WTTC?s Safe Travels stamp

Tobago has been awarded the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) ?Safe Travels? stamp after the release of the Tourism Industry Health & Safety Manual by the the Tobago Tourism Agency (TTA).

Tobago is one of the three Caribbean destinations that has been awarded the ?Safe Travels? logo, along with Jamaica and Aruba.

The Safe Travels stamp is awarded to destinations which has health protocols similar to those of the WTTC. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has endorsed the WTTC Safe Travels stamp, which places the safety and hygiene of travellers as top priority. https://wttc.org/COVID-19/Safe-Travels-Global-Protocols-Stamp

Louis Lewis, CEO of TTA, said, ?Receiving WTTC?s stamp of approval for Tobago as a ?Safe Destination? is tremendously important for promoting it to potential visitors. Health and safety are the most important concerns for visitors at this time, and this stamp certainly accelerates our efforts in rebuilding confidence.?

As local brand ambassadors of the ?Safe Travels? stamp, the TTA will continue to advocate for industry stakeholders to implement the protocols outlined in the Agency?s Tourism Industry Health & Safety Manual, that have been vetted and endorsed by the WTTC.

Narendra Ramgulam, TTA?s director of product development and destination management, who spearheaded the development of the Manual stated, ?One of the first things that TTA started doing was put research into the creation of a health and safety manual which would not only guide the industry?s practices as it copes with the new normal, but provide a level of assurance internationally that Tobago is safe and ready for travellers again. The manual would not have been possible without our stakeholders, whose feedback was quite useful.?

Once the local industry stakeholders start following and adopt the practices outlined in the TTA?s manual, they too will be awarded the Safe Travels stamp for use in their own businesses.

The manual will be made available for the public soon via the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited?s website https://www.visittobago.gov.tt/
