Tahiti July 14

Tahiti opens borders to international tourists with new health protocols in place

Tahiti is reopening of its borders for international tourists from tomorrow, July 15.

The multi-island destination has implemented new health protocols. So far, Tahiti Islands has recorded only sixty cases and no deaths.

The quarantine will be replaced by protocols for all travellers arriving by air. They are: Perform an RT-PCR test of SARS-CoV-2 within three days before the flight to Tahiti and present the negative result to the airline attendant during check-in; and completing a health commitment form at the online platform https://www.etis.pf/. This health surveillance system established by the government of French Polynesia, monitors the traveller?s health status and allows to contact the traveller, at any point, through his itinerary, when necessary.

Four days after arrival in French Polynesia, visitors will carry out a self-administered RT-PCR test of SARS-CoV-2 using the kit provided to them, free of charge upon arrival at Tahiti Faa'a International Airport. If a traveller tests positive during their visit, they will be transported to the main island of Tahiti by the local health authorities to avoid spreading the virus and receive any required medical care.

Special procedures have been developed for the tourism sector and travel industry professionals have been trained to deal with emergency situations.

Jean-Marc Mocellin, CEO of Tahiti Tourisme, says: "The country, the health authorities including Louis Malard? research Institute, the Ministry of Tourism and Tahiti Tourisme and the tourism workers have been mobilised over the last few weeks, to prepare for the return of our visitors. This health protocol with the  ETIS platform and the Traveller's Self-Test, will have a huge implication, especially for a territory as big as Europe."

In addition to this health protocol aspect, most of the Polynesian tourism professionals have agreed to adopt a common policy of waiving cancellation or change of date fees.
