Scenic Eclipse Antarctica On the Ice Emperor Weddell Sea

Scenic launches Antarctica & The Americas brochure for 2020/22

Scenic has launched the new Antarctica & The Americas 2020/22 brochure ? introducing a new offering of escorted land journeys tailored to extend and enhance any Scenic Eclipse voyage.

Scenic Eclipse has amazed guests on her first sailing into Polar waters with a rare sighting of Emperor Penguins in the Weddell Sea. Captain James Griffith described this once-in-a-lifetime moment:  ?Snow Hill Island is home to a large rookery of Emperor Penguins but it is incredibly rare to see them at this time of year when the sea ice limits access. Scenic Eclipse was originally only scheduled for a single stop at the Northern part of the Weddell, but on examining the ice charts we realized the opportunity to push the ship South towards Snow Hill Island. We spent around twelve hours in the ice where Scenic Eclipse excelled and demonstrated the value of her Polar Code 6 classification, 1ASuper Ice Class and unmatched manoeuvrability. I am genuinely excited to see what other amazing opportunities this exceptional ship will give us to show Antarctica to our Guests?

The cruise operator, new for 2020, has introduced a range of hand-crafted land itineraries which will link to the Scenic Eclipse cruise, travelling with a maximum of 20 guests and expert tour directors to bring great insight into the culture, nature and history of South & Central America.

A sample itinerary 'Antarctica In Depth' is a 16-day trip where guests get to explore the most accessible and wildlife-rich region of Antarctica with 200 guests on board, and enjoy access to the broadest range of landing sites. It includes Scenic Discovery excursions from shore visits to Zodiac cruises for wildlife encounters; glide on a kayak through sheltered waterways and drift quietly alongside wildlife; visit historic research huts and working scientific stations; be surrounded by massive icebergs and ancient glaciers and learn about Antarctica?s unique wildlife and environment from the onboard expert Discovery Team; board the Scenic Eclipse helicopters and soar above for amazing views; and dive below the surface in our Scenic Neptune submarine. Departing on February 15, 2022, it is priced from ?10,781 per person (Verandah Suite).
