RIU to launch its first UK hotel in 2020

RIU Hotels & Resorts is to open its first UK hotel by the close of 2020.

The hotel chain recently acquired a building in one of the top neighbourhoods of London. Located in the premium area right next to Victoria Station, Westminster Cathedral and Buckingham Palace, the new property will be refurbished into a four-star hotel and be part of the Riu Plaza urban line. The renovated hotel will feature 350 rooms, a bar and restaurant, an open-air terrace and target guests visiting London on sight-seeing holidays.

The location of the new property near to Victoria station, the second-busiest in the UK with an annual footfall of 75 million passengers, and also boasts good connectivity with Gatwick airport a 30-minute journey via a direct connection.

Luis Riu, CEO of the hotel chain, said: ?Location is very important for all our hotels, but for the Riu Plaza line it is essential that we are located very close to the places of cultural and tourist interest and very well-connected. After years spent studying the best offers in the city, we are very pleased to announce this project, for which we estimate an investment of around 250 million euros to cover the purchase of the building and the refurbishment. The location is unbeatable, the building is in excellent condition and I think that in less than two years we will be able to celebrate the opening of our first hotel in London.?
