Palma 365 launches initiative to promote local trades in Palma

Palma 365, the tourism board for Balearic Islands capital, has recently launched an initiative to raise awareness of emblematic shops, including bakeries, traditional bars and restaurants and markets.

The initiative aims to help tourists discover Palma?s food and wine scene. The project is a catalogue that includes details of the emblematic shops in Palma that showcase traditional Mallorcan trades.

The tourism board has introduced this initiative as part of its strategy to develop a year-round tourism model focused on major themes such as culture, shopping and art, which benefits local communities.

It is expected that the scheme will help diffuse tourism across the city during peak season and raise awareness of Palma?s lesser-known tourist attractions, promoting its cultural and historical heritage.

In order to be included in the catalogue, and to qualify from tax benefits that are part of the scheme, shops must comply with at least one of the following three pre-requisites including having opened before 1943, they must showcase traditional trades of the Balearics and they must be housed in a heritage building.

Featured in the catalogue are some of Palma?s oldest bakeries including Forno Sto and Forn de Sant Antoni; traditional markets such as the Mercado de l?Olivar and Santa Catalina; as well as restaurants and bars such as Bar Bosch, el Caf? Marti and Bar Central.
