Liverpool comeback sparks 4,800% spike in flight searches to Madrid

Flight searches from the UK to Madrid increased by 4,820% over the course of just one day, following Liverpool’s victory against Barcelona earlier this week.

Liverpool FC’s dramatic triumph means they will be heading to he Champion’s League Final, which will take place on June 1 at the Wanda Metropolitano. As a result, and according to online data collated by comparison site Jetcost, searches for flights from UK airports to Madrid have increased by 4,820%, when compared with searches from a day earlier, and an increase of 3,311% from last week.

Searches for flights from the UK to other airports in Spain have also seen an upturn, with searches to Barcelona incurring a 204% increase from a day earlier, and 186% from last week. Meanwhile, Bilbao saw a 913% increase from a day before, and a larger 2,433% growth compared with last week.

Analysing data from Google Trends also shows a similar pattern, with searches for ‘UK to Madrid flights’ seeing a 1,000% increase over the last seven days, and ‘when is the Champions League final’ rising by 950%.
