La Mamounia to get a makeover

La Mamounia, a palace hotel in Marrakech, Morocco, will be closed to visitors between May 25 and September 15 for major renovations this year

Built in 1923, the hotel has received a restoration only once before. This time, Parisian firm Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku have been assigned the task of refurbishing the structure, especially the culinary spaces, individual rooms and the public areas.

The new look of the property will combine a contemporary concept, with a traditional setup and the transitions of various eras gone by.

Following the renovation, the three-star Michelin Chef Jean Georges will introduce two new restaurant concepts to the hotel. The first one will be an Italian trattoria, and the second will be an Asian concept that draws inspiration from the culinary cultures of South East Asia.

In the past, La Mamounia has hosted various celebrities, international royalties, and some of the most iconic people till date. Located near the famous Jamaa El Fna Square, the hotel combines the Arabic-Andalusian history with traditional Moroccan hospitality and stands as a classic example of the great age of grand hotels.
