With processes such as packing, unpacking, checking in, checking out, transfers, security, and passport control all eating into precious holiday time, CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) has highlighted a solution that can not only cut down on these holiday hassles but in fact gain travellers extra leisure time.

When it comes to holiday habits, ABTA research found that 53% of holidaymakers are choosing multi city break holidays. Subsequently CLIA has worked out that if travellers choose a cruise for a multi-centre break they can alleviate the need for surplus packing, checking in and out, transferring, queuing and waiting at airports between stops and gain an average of six hours of holiday time per destination. On a six stop cruise this could mean gaining in excess of 36 hours.

To put this into perspective one could spend those 36 hours:

- Relaxing with 25 full body massages

- Playing 162 holes of golf

- Watching 14 outdoor movie screenings under the stars

- Enjoying six Broadway shows

- Taking 18 siestas

- Spending 2,160 minutes toping up their tan

Andy Harmer, the association’s SVP membership and director for UK & Ireland, said: “We all know that the process of travelling to and from our holiday destination can be long and stressful and with more of us than ever choosing to take several city breaks each year unfortunately we have to go through this multiple times. A cruise holiday can provide the perfect solution to this with many itineraries calling at a number of different destinations in just one sailing without the hassle of having to get to and from the airport and pack and unpack each time. As well as being able to visit an incredible range of locations in one getaway, by saving a day and a half in travel and packing time, Brits choosing to cruise can really make the most of their precious annual leave by spending more time with loved ones, exploring the destination or simply enjoying a drink by the pool.”
