Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto opens in November, bookings open

Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto, a new luxury hotel in the Japanese city of Kyoto, will open on November 3 and is accepting bookings.

The property has 161 guest rooms, which includes 22 suites (two Onsen suites and one presidential suite), where each room is a reimagining of the traditional Japanese tea room, created by using meticulously selected natural materials and time-honoured techniques. Located near the Nijō-jo Castle, the hotel architecture combines cultural artefacts from traditional Japanese culture and heritage of the Mitsui family, blended with modern design. The main gate or Kajiimiya Gate was originally constructed in 1703, which has been restored and relocated, to serve as the entrance of the hotel.

Design specialists such as André Fu, Shunsaku Miyagi and Yohei Akao have designed the guest rooms, the lobby, the landscape, the spa and the restaurants and the team was led by Akira Kuryu.

The property is offering a special package between November 3, 2020 and March 21, 2021. During this time, the prices for a room per night, on a double-sharing basis/for two is £730, which includes breakfast for two people and a voucher for £75 which can be used for the restaurants or spa treatments.

General manager, Manabu Kusui said, “Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto represents the true essence of Japan, along with some contemporary aspects. The brand concept- ‘embracing Japan’s beauty’ is embodied throughout the property, as we have merged tradition and modern philosophy across design, wellbeing, garden artistry and gastronomy. This is an exciting moment for all of us. As the hotel comes into fruition, the design team are adding the touches to make Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto, the ultimate emblem of Japan’s Beauty. My team and I look forward to opening the hotel and welcoming guests.”

Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto is a part of The Luxury Collection by Marriott International, a portfolio that includes the most iconic and highly regarded hotels and resorts. Additional features of Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto include:

Onsite hot spring

This is the only luxury property in Kyoto city centre to have its own natural spring water source. The huge spa area includes a communal thermal onsen spring and two additional private natural onsen spring baths, which has living rooms, relaxation area and a private garden, besides four treatment rooms. Onsen Suite guest rooms offer a special experience featuring natural outdoor hot spring baths, set in private garden quarters with trees, lanterns, and stonework walls for privacy.

The property has two restaurants designed to appeal to both domestic and international guests. The signature TOKI combines the traditions and techniques of French and Japanese cuisine, to create a new gastronomy teppan experience, while FORNI offers all-day Italian dining. The restaurant TOKI will open with Tetsuya Asano at the helm, as Signature Restaurant Chef while executive Chef Tadahiro Takagi, will oversee all aspects of the culinary service at the hotel.

The Garden Bar

In addition to the two restaurants, the hotel features a bar, with views of the landscaped grounds that beautifully showcases changing seasons; such as the sakura cherry blossoms in spring, the bright summers and the striking gold and crimson hues of autumn, as well as the white snowscape of winter.

The timber-framed SHIKI-NO-MA room, made of Japanese Cypress, is a modern reconstruction of part of the former residence of Kitake, the executive branch of the Mitsui Family. It will be available as a private dining area, to host traditional tea ceremony gatherings and events, such as, the traditional Maiko performances.

A gateway to discover Kyoto

The property offers the history-enthusiasts to enter another portal of time with some engaging and exclusive activities, such as the afternoon Tea in the former Shimogamo Villa of the Mitsui Family, which is a listed heritage property; a curated Hotel Art Tour led by the Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto ambassador to discover the cultural and historical significance of each and every unique piece of art in the hotel and a wellness breathing session at Shiki-no-ma to start the day.
