Essential Travel found that 82 per cent of Brits holidaying within the UK don?t think about buying travel insurance.

Essential Travel also found the 12 per cent who did insure themselves on a UK break sited Swine Flu concerns as the main reason.

The findings come as the Swine flu epidemic threatens to interfere with holiday plans up and down the country with the majority of UK travellers not being protected against unexpected cancellations.

Simon Purnell, director, EssentialTravel.co.uk, said: ?People we spoke to simply didn?t think travel insurance for the UK was important.

?Whether you?re jetting across the globe or holidaying in the UK this year, the right insurance is essential.

?Luggage can still be lost on a domestic flight and trips may still have to be unexpectedly cancelled, it really doesn?t matter where you are travelling to.

?We strongly urge the travelling public to seriously consider protecting both them and their holidays.?
