Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen on the steps of an Eastern Airways plane

Eastern Airways start daily flights to Newquay for the rest of 2020

Teesside International Airport has announced that Eastern Airways? twice-weekly services to Cornwall Airport, Newquay will now run all year round, and the Dublin service will start from September 25, flying three times a week.

The airport has also announced that Eastern Airways will start daily flights, from Monday to Friday, to Southampton for the cruise market from September 7.

Eastern Airways had to increase the size of the plane due to the overwhelming demand of passengers between Durham and Newquay. Due to the huge number of forward bookings, it will continue the services beyond the end of its season in September. The flights will operate on Mondays and Fridays. Fares start from ?79.99 and are available for booking now.

?When we were planning the introduction of the flight to Newquay we knew it would be popular, but everyone has been blown away by just how popular it has become. We never expected that we would have to increase the capacity and make it a year-round service within days of its launch,? Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said. ?This kind of public support isn?t just important to keep us flying to popular holiday and business destinations, it will show we are a region open to inward investment coming through our terminal,  and it forms a major part of my recovery plan, which is creating good quality well paid local jobs for local workers.?

Roger Hage, general manager, commercial & operations, Eastern Airways, said, ?The initial response to adding Newquay to the growing mix of Teesside services in our partnership with the airport has been very positive and that is why such a service can be sustainable year-round which we are delighted to deliver as Eastern Airways, the UK?s regional airline. This helps to connect not just Teesside locally, but the wider North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland, with a year-round access to the south-west and vice-versa; helping business and tourism related economic recovery.?

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines wil be restarting its route to Amsterdam Schiphol on August 3, initially for once-daily flights and moving to three-times daily as the market allows.
