CTO chapter UK & Europe announces membership boost since lockdown

While the travel industry faces unprecedented challenges and uncertainty it is positive to see that the CTO chapter UK & Europe had a significant membership growth.

UK’s only Caribbean industry member network has been helping to support members through weekly virtual meetings which have featured eminent speakers.

Four new members have joined the Chapter and taken the total membership to 65. The new members include the destinations of the Dominican Republic and Curacao, the adults-only romantic retreat Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in Aruba and the intimate Bequia Beach Resort on the island of Bequia in St Vincent & the Grenadines.

New member Sabrina Cambiaso, director, Dominican Republic Tourist Board stated: “The Dominican Republic is delighted to have joined the CTO Chapter UK & Europe. The organisation is extremely proactive providing opportunities to share best practice and insights with our peers which feels particularly valuable right now. Their programme of events gives us effective access to media and the trade ensuring we’re in a strong position to capitalise on the recovery.”

Colin Pegler, chairman, CTO Chapter UK & Europe stated: “Our comprehensive events programme and weekly meetings give members access to the travel trade and our proactive and operational support across areas as diverse as IT, sustainable tourism development and marketing in invaluable to those with smaller budgets.”

Since lockdown, the weekly virtual meetings have been a huge success. With recovery on the horizon and ten destinations now declared COVID-19 free the Caribbean is opening up to tourists. Antigua and Jamaica are already receiving visitors and the Dominican Republic is focused on a July 1 re-opening. To support this and to maximise the pent-up demand currently existing a series of travel agent roadshows will be rolled out from September taking in Ireland and key regional cities in the UK including Plymouth, Bristol, Oxford and London. With the aim of driving bookings for autumn and winter 2020 / 2021, the roadshows will provide the ideal opportunity for members to harness the retail sector to ensure the Caribbean has a strong six months ahead.
