Arena Rail Holidays launches 2020 programme

Arena Rail Holidays has unveiled an expanded programme for 2020.

It includes new tours in the UK, new cruise and tour combination packages and a new series of itineraries that combines rail journeys with guided walking in beautiful locations.

The latest programme will also see the introduction of many new destinations alongside old favourites, including the vineyards of Portugal and the mountains of Transylvania, taking the total number of tours to 36 across 13 destinations.

Tim Fleming, sales and business development manager at the operator, said: “Over the last three years our programme of rail holidays has really developed, particularly to reflect growth in demand for escorted short trips in the UK. These tours appeal to clients who take several shorter trips throughout the year and offer a chance to showcase some of the wonderful heritage railways right here in the UK. Further afield our new cruise and tour options for 2020 will give agents an opportunity to cross-sell the product, while the exciting range of walking tours is expected to appeal to a more active audience, giving a different way to explore some of our most popular destinations.”

'Railway Tracks & Walking in the Yorkshire Dales' is a five-day tour that combines guided walks across Yorkshire moors and along riversides with trips aboard two heritage railways, the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway and the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Departures are available in April, August and October 2020, priced from £549 per person.

A five-day tour that explores the North East’s rich heritage and mining past with a journey on the highest narrow-gauge railway in England, visit to Durham’s castle and cathedral, and glimpse into colliery life at Beamish Open-Air museum. Departures are available in June, July, August and September 2020, priced from £479 per person.

'Fairytale Castles & Railways of Transylvania' is an 11-day trip featuring medieval cities, historic castles and UNESCO world heritage sites. Highlights include a candlelit dinner on the Carpathia Express Train, visiting the Sibiu Steam Train Museum, and entry to Bran Castle. Departures are available in June and September 2020, priced from £1,499 per person.

All prices are based on two adults sharing accommodation in three- and four-star hotels throughout, including daily breakfast; excursions and services of a tour manager/director throughout. Continental rail tours also include return travel from London St Pancras by Eurostar and onward rail connections. UK tours do not include travel to join the tour.
