Anguilla Tourist Board ANI Private Resorts

Agents and operators experience Anguilla's dishes in London's Mayfair

Fifteen agents and operators have tasted Anguilla's dishes at a chefs showcase, jointly hosted at Flemings? Ormer restaurant by Anguilla Tourist Board and A?NI Private Resorts.

Anguillian chef Kerth Gumbs, head chef of Ormer, and chef Kelston ?Sweets? Conner of A?NI Private Resorts Anguilla, who is currently undertaking a guest stint at Ormer for his development under the guidance of Chef Gumbs, worked side by side to create an Anguilla inspired menu for the agents and operators, all presented with a theatrical twist.

Dishes included a twist on traditional Johnnie cakes accompanied by marsala butter, tandoori pumpkin, spice chickpea crunch and curry oil; stewed saltfish with blackbean and pineapple chutney; and yellowtail ceviche and braised ox cheek with caramelised onion, pomme puree and red wine jus.

Carolyn Brown, director for the UK, Ireland & Scandinavia for the Anguilla Tourism Board, said: ?Anguilla may be small but it has firmly established itself as one of the Caribbean?s leading culinary destinations with an exceptional dine-around culture which is unique to the Island.

?Due to the diverse number of restaurants and culinary experiences available, the Island has become a hotbed for budding culinary talent, producing many world-class and internationally trained chefs, such as Kerth Gumbs and Kelston Connor, who are continuing to shape the Island?s culinary scene.  We look forward to welcoming this homegrown talent back to Anguilla for our Extraordinary Eats event in April 2020?.

Julian Lancaster, UK marketing representative, A?NI Private Resorts, said: ?We feel honoured to bring our Executive Chef, Kelston ?Sweets? Connor to the UK to train in London?s Mayfair with the remarkably talented Kerth Gumbs and to be able to share their collaboration with the UK?s travel industry.

?As well as heading up our Anguilla operation, upon his return, Chef Connor will be taking on the role as the Director of the food programme for our entire worldwide collection and so his training here in the UK is invaluable.  He has also undergone similar placements in 11 Madison, Blue Hill at Stone Barns - both Michelin Starred restaurants.?

Gumbs and Conner will be participating in the Chef?s Extraordinaire at the Anguilla Tourist Board?s Extraordinary Eats Festival which takes place in Anguilla from April 5-26, 2020. Restaurants, hotels and villas throughout the Island will be running special discounts and promotions and the annual Festival Del Mar, a celebration of all things from the sea, will take place over the middle Easter weekend (11-12 April) at Island Harbour.
